Common questions

How long does a repair take?

Standard turnaround is 5 business days. Rush service is 2 business days for a 35% surcharge on labor. If rush means paying for expedited shipping on materials, that shipping is billed at cost. Turnaround is the main reason this shop exists — regional shops routinely quote several weeks. Dates are an honest estimate rather than a guarantee, and if one is going to slip you hear the day before at the latest.

How much does a zipper replacement cost?

Zippers are quoted from a photo, usually the same day you send it. Price depends on the zipper length, whether the item is lined or insulated, and the hardware grade, so a flat number would be a guess. Text a photo of the damage to (715) 575-6425 and you get a firm price before any work starts.

Do you repair boat and pontoon seats?

Yes. Boat and pontoon seat re-skins are $175+ per seat and ATV or snowmobile seat covers are $150+. Seats priced individually. Cover tears away from a seam are quoted from a photo. Marine vinyl and upholstery quoted separately.

Do you repair boat covers, pontoon covers and bimini tops?

Yes, and it is one of the busiest jobs here either side of the season. Seam repair on a boat cover or bimini is $65+, and a cover zipper or fastener is $60+. Tears away from a seam are quoted from a photo, because the fix depends on where the damage sits and how much fabric is left around it. Seats priced individually. Cover tears away from a seam are quoted from a photo. Marine vinyl and upholstery quoted separately.

Do you resole boots?

No. This is stitch repair only — boot stitch repair is $35+ per boot. Resoling is a different trade and is not offered here.

Can you repair hunting gear before the season opens?

Yes, and book early. Ground blind and tent repair is $65/hr. Packs and Cordura, heavy canvas patching, and bibs, parkas and insulated wear are quoted from a photo. Book hunting gear before the Sept. 12 opener.

Is there anything you will not repair?

Yes, and it is a safety line rather than a preference: treestand harnesses or fall-arrest webbing, climbing gear and lifting slings, seats with airbag seams. If a failed stitch could hurt you, I’ll tell you to replace it instead.

What areas do you serve?

the Chippewa Valley, out of Altoona, WI: Altoona, Eau Claire, Lake Hallie, Chippewa Falls, Menomonie, Osseo, Bloomer, Fall Creek, Augusta. Drop-off is free. Pickup and delivery is priced per trip by distance — $25 within 10 miles, $40 for 10 to 20 miles, and $65 for 20 to 35 miles.

How do I get a quote?

Send a photo of the damage through the estimate form at secondseasonec.com/estimate/ or text it to (715) 575-6425. Items are usually quoted the same day. This quote is good for 7 days. After that, prices and my schedule may have moved — send it back to me and I'll tell you if it still stands.

How do I pay?

Due on pickup unless a deposit was agreed. Cash or card — I can't take checks. Deposit refunded in full before material is ordered or work starts; after that, less any materials bought for your job.

How are materials charged?

Materials are billed at cost plus 20%. On jobs with more than $50 of materials, half the material cost is due up front. Anything I have to buy for your job is on the written quote before I start, so there is nothing new on the invoice.

Is the work guaranteed?

Every repair is guaranteed against my own workmanship. If a stitch I put in fails, bring it back and I will redo it free of charge.
